With tide just after Midday at Bradfield on the River Stour, it was an early start which I didn't make yet again oversleeping. Shame because Jay who started very early had enough water for an early start and much cleaner wind.
Wind measured 15kts max from the North and that's the top end of my 9M and at the bottom end of my 8M, and despite advice from the pro's to go big, as they did, with the 9M. I thought the forecast was going to build to 21kts, so bottled it and went for 8M.
About a dozen out 5 wings, 2 fins, 5 wind foils and more at Wrabness, so good turnout. After discussing with racer Dave, to try and sort my Patrik 100 race high back foot pressure at the higher speeds, (essential driving nose down at speed) using the 1100FW/115+/330 stab, I took on board his advice, if I didn't want to drop to the 255 stab. We fitted 0.5 spacer instead of -1, move the front foot straps one hole back towards rear.
Cant believe such tiny adjustments made such a huge difference, although the wind was lighter today. Gusts were easy F4 top end so I used that as a guide, and unbelievably the 0.5 spacer kept the board level, hardly any backfoot pressure! Just the perfect amount. Had good runs up and down the river, flying mainly in gusts, so the 9M would have been a better choice. Dave and Nick were race training covering some very deep angles both up and down. Wingers didn't have enough wind most times, and looked to be pumping furiously.
Def wasn't enough for the poor fin guys. On my final run towards the power station the wind was great at first and I just got to 20.1 but unfortunately the wind died on the way back with the tide now turned, I was slow back. Lucky for me there was enough water to land. Didn't bother to try any gybes, as already had 2 dunking's trying to get in the rear foot straps. I was told don’t use them, by the pro's but that begs the question, why did the manufacturer fit them!? DC said keep the current setting, and if it’s windy, use the 255 stab set at 0 for my body weight, which theoretically should continue my level sailing, Great day, great company, 5 stars but with a 109 average HR and only 692 cals burnt, it was not a hard day as I would have liked.
